Our Maths.

Hello fellow bloggers,

We have been learning about how to use Compatible Numbers. Compatible Numbers are any two numbers which add together to make a Tidy Number

(a  number which ends in zero).  We had to choose two Compatible Numbers and another number. Then we had to think of a word problem which used our numbers and give the problem to a buddy to solve. Mrs Ogle, our maths facilitator, said this is called 'posing problems'.

My word problem.

Cordeila has 76 sheep, Galaxy has 4 cows and Trident has 11 foxes.
How many animals do they have altogether?

76+4+11=91

76+4=80

80+11=91

Team Moana Ski Trip 2020

Hello fellow bloggers,

last week Team Moana went to Mt. Ruapehu for the ski trip.  It took a long time to get there but luckily we had some movies to watch and some songs to sing.  Then a few hours later we arrived at Piper's Lodge . On the second day we went skiing at Whakapapa ski field.  First we had free time skiing then a little bit later we had ski lessons. After that we had more free time skiing.
Here is a picture of me at Whakapapa ski field.

Feet measurement

Hello fellow bloggers,

For maths we've been measuring feet.  I measured Hayley ,Max and Busters feet. First we  estimated the size of the feet and then estimated the feet with wool. Then we estimated the wool. Once we eastimated the wool, I finally got to measure the wool with a 1 metre ruler. You can see how much centimetres their feet are.

Tectonic plates

 Hello fellow bloggers,

last Friday we did an experiment  with wafers and homemade tomato sauce.   The tomato sauce was magma and the wafers were the crust of the Earth. Mrs B punched a hole in the wafer and we slowly pressed the wafer down. We also moved the wafers side to side, apart from each other and we moved them towards each other copying the ways that the actual plates move. Here are some photos of our experiment.

NZ little bittern

Hello fellow bloggers,

Last term we did a bird inquiry of extinct birds for science I was doing the New Zealand Little Bittern with my group. In the 1890's the New Zealand Little Bittern went extinct.

The easy thing to do was get pictures of the Little bittern

The hard thing to do was  find facts of the Little bittern

The learning behind the task was.. Researching about extinct  birds.

Matariki art

hello, this is Sydney-Rose

on Monday we did Matariki art  to represent our family like a big koru would represent your dad or a small koru would symbolise a pet or yourself. there was a bunch of things we could sketch like a dolphin or a turtle with Maori designs on them. I drew a dolphin. I enjoyed sketching it was hard to do shading.

chicken divas

hello, Sydney-Rose here

for a couple of weeks now we've been doing chicken diva art. We sketched a chicken and coloured it in with pastels, after that we decorated it and added beads, feathers, glitter etc. I enjoyed doing the decorations on our chicken as it was hard colouring in because of the little white spots.

: Me and my DNA.

This term for science we are learning all about how the human body works and how special we all are. We are also trying to learn how to think and act more like a scientist. So, Miss Fletcher asked us to look at our faces in the mirror and write down notes about what we look like. The information had to be precise and clear so that when someone read it, it would help them find the person it described quickly. It was a bit like being a detective. You had to look and notice things carefully.

Miss Fletcher said that what we look like depends on our mother and father. Making a new human is a bit like making a cake.  You get some ingredients from your mum and some from your dad. The ingredients are called DNA. Everybody’s cake is different to everyone else’s.

Miss Fletcher said the person with the most efficient description was Andrew J as he wrote: My hair is 1cm long all over. He is the only student in Team Moana with a haircut like that so he was able to be identified very easily. You can read my description below. 16 people said they could identify me by my description.
