1.Find an appropriate clear piece of land to dig the hole.
2. Clear the loose shrubs, leaves, grass, branches and other loose materials from the area.
3. Water the area aroud your hole to stop your fire from spreading
4. Measure the appropriate area to dig. Use the cooking baskets as an outline. Give a little
extra space from the edge of the basket- 30 cm.
extra space from the edge of the basket- 30 cm.
5. Get a spade and start digging. Your hole needs to be deep enough to allow for the depth of the baskets plus the wood, rocks and iron o which they will sit.
6. Gather the wood, rocks and iron and prepare the hole - use native woods like puriri and totora for heat and manuka for flavour.

Sydney-Roses DLO Forces and Motion
Today I am going to share with you a DLO I made about Forces and motion. We had to read a text and then pluck out the important ideas and set them out clearly on a new DLO.
The learning behind this was:
Learn more about forces
Be able to identify important ideas
What was hard: It’s hard to find the main ideas
What was easy: Finding pictures to suit the words

Inquiry Term 2 2019
Kia ora, for the last couple of weeks we have been working on our inquiry. My question was: What is gravity? Here you can see my inquiry Planet Earth and Beyond. One thing I enjoyed was getting the pictures. One thing that was hard was getting it done fast. Two facts I learnt were the force that attracts a body towards the centre of the earth, or towards any other physical body having mass is called gravity. The force that pulls things down towards Earth is also called gravity.

Autumn Leaves
Kia Ora
This week, we have been outside with Mrs Fletcher learning about autumn leaves and we did some writing. Some people did poems, songs or acrostic poems. We got some leaves while we were at the back and put them in a bowl to see how they felt or looked.

Can icecream wafers and caramel syrup help us understand plate tectonics?
Kia ora,
We are learning how tectonic plates can behave when they are near each other and how powerful they are. Here is a picture of us experimenting with ice cream wafers. Here you see how one huge slab of rock (tectonic plate) can slide underneath another one. This was great experiment because we got to eat everything at the end.

Structure of the Earth
Structure of the Earth Facts
We are learning about the structure of the Earth.
I learnt that the Earth is made up of 4 layers. They are:
Facts about each layer:
Crust - the crust is the first layer of the earth and is the thinnest - 8-40kms thick.
Mantle - the mantle is made up of rock and tis he thickest layer. It is soft and squishy and very hot.
Outer Core -the outer core is up to 4000-6000'C and liquid rock
Inner Core - inner core is pressured by the other layers so it turns into a solid ball even though it is really hot too.
Our group - Ellie and Sydney-Rose
First we created a 3D image of the earth using …..
We then cut the shape in half to show the different layers. After waiting for it to dry, we identified each layer by painting them in different colours.
Below are some pictures of our work.

Mixed ability Maths
This term we have been working together in our mixed ability maths groups.
How I feel about:it it was really hard to work out the problems.
How I feel about:it it was really hard to work out the problems.
What I have enjoyed: that she taught us lots of new strategies for maths.
What I found difficult: The bikes and trikes maths problem was hard because it was hard to work out how many bikes there were.
What I can do to change my negative thinking how do you do it: just keep working and try communicate more with my group.

Maths Understanding
Hello everyone,
For the last few days, we have be solving maths problems. We had to use place value partitioning and equal adjustments. We had to make a google draw and show our working out. The hardest bit was making a tidy number. The favourite part looking at the end result. The learning behind this task was to understand how to use equal adjustments and place value partitioning.
Here is my slide show about the problems:
